The Toxic Cloud of Judgment
August 16, 2012When I broke my arm, I spent a lot of time watching television. I checked out a lot of popular reality shows and was more often than not appalled by the behavior of many people. I found myself making judgments that were based on “chosen” clips showing who the individuals were. I realized how judgment can become a habit. We judge the people on the shows, the commercials, people in our daily lives, like the driver who cuts you off and then we want to share those judgments with another for validation that our judgments are indeed correct.
Yuck! What kind of energy are we creating for ourselves and others with judgment? Visualize your negative judgments as clouds of toxins with which you surround yourself and the individual being judged. How toxic is your energy field? Can you see how these toxins could be hindering you and the other individual from being all that they could be?
If one believes the biblical statement: “Judge not, lest ye be judged,” then watching reality television shows that encourage making judgments is not to be recommended. Would you really want to be judged by your behavior in a single moment of your life?
No matter how different your behaviors, don’t you want others to look at all times for the good in you? I always love walking into my local Unity church where a mirror says, “I behold the Christ in you.” For me it serves as a reminder to look only for the good in myself and in others.
We play different roles with different people and in different situations. Few of us are always showing our true selves. Think of how you are with your parents and how you are with your friends. Is there a difference in your behavior? What are your many faces that you show to the world? Would you want to be judged on any one of them?
An American Indian saying reminds us to “Never criticize a man until you’ve walked a mile in his moccasins.” How many of us can say that we practice this?
Does your judgment of others serve any purpose? Sure, it helps you to avoid being around others who are not a good influence or who are hurtful to you. But does continual judgment really serve you or others? Think of that cloud of toxins blurring your vision and preventing your progress and spiritual evolution.
The worst type of judgment is self-judgment. Whether we are aware of it or not we are judging ourselves all of the time.
What can we do to move out of judgment whether it is of the self or others?
- Begin to recognize when you have gone into judgment and stop the thoughts.
- To transform the energy created by judgment, go within yourself and call forth Forgiveness.
- Ask that Love and Light be sent to the individual and to yourself.
With continual effort you can clear the energy around yourself, others and ultimately the planet. Let us work together to make the world a better place where everyone to be all that they can be.
