Problems Require Decisions and Actions
June 10, 2013If you have a problem, the solution always lies in making a decision and taking action. If you don’t like the way your life is going, then change is necessary. You can’t do the same thing day after day, year after year and expect your satisfaction with life to improve. Doing the same thing means you are not in the present and are stagnating while the world moves on. Dr. Phil always asks, “How is that working out for you?” If things aren’t going well then it is time to make some decisions and move forward with a different plan of attack or way of being.
Some repeatedly decide to avoid a problem which actually is more of a stress causer than facing the problem head on. Good things don’t always come to those who wait so this is one time when patience is not a virtue and opportunities for a better life may be missed. Don’t wait for others to solve your problems for, more than likely, they have their own problems to work on. In addition, you will learn more and have greater feelings of accomplishment if you do most of the work yourself.
Sometimes there is an inner conflict that holds you back – the prospects of greater things excites you but the fear of negative repercussions holds you back. Susan Jeffers wrote a whole book on “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway”. Can you afford to let you fears rule your life and therefore hold back your opportunity for happiness?
Don’t underestimate your problems but don’t exaggerate them either or use them to get pity, sympathy or attention. Some people are repeatedly going on about how difficult life is but they are only using the story to get attention or pity. They may even go so far as to sabotage any efforts by others to help them. My guess is that they decided that pity, sympathy or attention is what they need.
Take a moment and think about a problem that has been bugging you. See that problem as an opportunity for greater things and decide what steps you can take to solve the problem. Remember that even climbing a mountain is achieved one step at a time to work on taking it step by step. Believe and visualize that you are able to overcome any obstacles. Enlist the help of others who are familiar with what you need to work on. Dedicate time each day towards taking an action step.
Be open to the entire experience of decision making and moving forward. You may experience some discomfort, or anxiety along the way, but don’t take this as a sign to stop taking steps towards your decided goal. In time, you will see that your dedication, persistence and actions towards your decided goal have led you to the finish line and a happier life.
